Scallop Gratin

My sister recently told me about this dish who heard about it from here.  It sounded easy and delicious, two very important things when I tackle a new dish.  Within the past couple of years I've really taken to cooking, but I am still learning, so when I have a foreign, but successful dish I'm easily excited.  Joel and I count this as a success (Even if it wasn't true, which it is, I do feel completely comfortable putting words in his mouth, just an fyi).

I paired the dish with sautéed spinach and sprinkled leftover prosciutto on top as a side dish.
And voila, scallop gratin!

Weekend Update

I took my first official photos at a wedding this past weekend.  My friend's cousin got married in her families backyard on a lovely fall day.  Weird that I get emotional at weddings where I don't even know the bride and groom?  What can I say, I'm a sucker for weddings vows.  Congratulations to the happy couple, Shannon and Paul!

Triple D

Last stop on the Portland Post express, Maine Diner.  Joel and I found this little gem after watching an episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.  The mouth watering dishes looked so delicious in the episode that we were easily convinced to make a quick stop on our way home.  While my corn beef and hash was scrumptious, the real winner was Joel's cod cake benedict, one of the most amazing breakfast dishes I've eaten!

Duckfat

Did I mention that this week's posts would all involve some fun Portland photos, well they will.  Here's a few photos from its adorable downtown and the most delicious lunch spot!  We enjoyed fries cooked in duck fat, a duck confit sandwich with blueberry jam and brie cheese, and if that wasn't rich enough, a bacon, goat cheese, and tomato sandwich as well.  Delish.

"Weekend Update"

While I did have a lovely weekend with my family in the Berkshires, the following post is not technically about and or an update on my weekend, but instead the beginning of my fun trip to Portland last week.  This trip was too fun not to share with you all, so here we go, stop 1 or in blog land, post 1 on the Portland express, Allagash Brewery.  This quaint brewery is a  few short minutes from downtown Portland and a great spot for beer lovers.  The FREE tour began with five samplings of Allagash beer.  While I am a beer lover, my love is limited to light, wheat beers, sorry IPA's, nothing personal.  This tour was quick, fun, and most importantly FREE!

Greetings from Portland

This postcard's from my brief, but amazing stay in Portland, Maine.  While I've told people I've visited the adorable little city, it became more and more clear to me as I spent my day walking the streets with the BF that I had not in fact been to Portland before, but Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  My B.  To all those who I told I had been to Portland, I'm sorry, I just discovered the truth as well.

And don't worry, more photos from this fun little trip to come!

Don't you miss those summer days?

Sweet and Sour

Ever seen the sour patch kids commercials, "first they're sour, then they're sweet."  It's safe to say that those commercials accurately express my love/hate relationship with auto-correct.   Thank you, auto-correct for putting words in my mouth that I truly never meant to say.
